Ready for Spring!!

We got new French storm/screen doors today.

The upper panel of each slides down, bringing a screen down with it. You can probably make out the screen in the top left of the left-hand door.

So we will finally have natural ventilation in this part of the house.

Looooooooooooooong Day

Because we have workmen here, I don't get to take a nap today!! :-(

The first group appeared at around 8:00 AM but that was OK because they are working outside, layering our patio so that it matches our front walk. I'll add pictures when they are finished.

At 9AM, the crew that is installing a whole-house humidifier showed up and have been working since then (except for a 45-minute lunch break).

All I have to do is stay awake so they won't do whatever strange workmen are reputed to do when the owner is asleep or away. ;-)

Well, Cathy's home computer started making noises so I ordered a new HD but was futzing around with backup programs and to make a long story short, we ended up getting her a new computer, a Dell E521. Of course, it has only USB ports so I had to order a USB hub and a special USB/Parallel cable so she could continue to use her HP LaserJet 4L printer which is over 10 years old! What a bargain that was!!

So I now have a spare machine with Ubuntu, a Dell 15" LCD monitor and nowhere to put it! I thought I might put it in the great room entertainment center cabinet and hook it up to the 32" LCD TV/Monitor (Samsung) but then I'd need to get a wireless keyboard and mouse and a wireless NIC, and when would I use it? I had Cathy running Firefox and Evolution under Ubuntu for about a week until the E521 came in and she only tolerated it. There ought to be a way to configure some *nix GUI so that it look smore like Windows!!

Remember that little problem I was having with Thunderbird? Clicking on a link in an email body did not invoke Firefox. Well, I decided to consider an anti-phishing feature cause it forces to me to copy the link location to FF and then see that it wasn't going to take me where it pretended to!! (Anything to avoid the tedium of more troubleshooting in Thunderbird!)
