Happy Birthday, B!!

On Friday evening, D threw a 40th birthday party for B at Bowman's Tavern on the Delaware. B's mother was heard to mutter "I'm not old enough to have a 40-year-old child!!!"

It was a salad bowl of B's friends and relatives, dating back to CAV's oldest friends, M and B, several cousins, people from "New Hope Days", neighbors, D's coworkers and various other friends. What amused many of the people was that different people know B by different names!! (Can't get into that just using initials!)

Several of us met for dinner first -- the food was quite good, especially the scallops! -- and then about 35 more showed up for nibbles, drinks and birthday cake.

I was happy to see everyone helping B celebrate but the noise was too much for me. I must be getting old, but I could hardly hear anything anyone said. There were a couple of people with the kind of voice that cut right through the cacophony but I no longer produce classroom-filling sound so they couldn't hear me very well either.

The icing on the cake was that the bar TV carried the Red Sox come-from-behind win over the Yankees!!!

Many happy returns. :-)

Another Quick Week!

At bowling yesterday, I found out that I now had the 5th highest series (with handicap) this year! AND I won NINE FREE GAMES!! Whoooo!! ;-)

However, my bowling returned to normal and we won only one point, ensuring that we will finish in the bottom 50%.

The window washers came today! Always nice to have the windows washed...by someone else!

And the humidifier guy came today, too. He's going to talk to the manufacturer about rerouting the humidifier output to either the supply side of the HVAC or directly to a vent in the bedroom. And although the solenoid was as quiet as Red Sox bats, he's going to order a new one. Nice to have a service person who believes me rather than wanting "proof"!!!

Surprised B the other day. We ordered a new photo printer for his birthday and I had it delivered directly to his address. I don't recall seeing a box to check off for "gift" so that was no notification at all in the package! SURPRISE!!!

As you undoubtedly know, we had a LOT of rain here recently, but we personally did not run into any flooding. I'm just reminded of our experience with basement flooding in our last house -- who needs a river? -- and I'm loving not having a basement or sump pumps with battery backup or French drains!!!

What will the rest of the week bring?

On Sunday, we had S & P, B & D and Wendy for Easter dinner. Cathy outdid herself with a mint green pea soup, field green salad, grilled salmon, tenderloin steaks, green beans, asparagus and bread pudding. S brought his inestimable hummus and P made chocolate biscotti!! B brought an asparagus appetizer that he is know for and D brought B. :-) Wendy brought strawberries and told me why she prefers Microsoft Office 2007!

Monday, whilst playing in my usual duplicate bridge game, I got a hand to play that reminded me of something I had read in a bridge column the week before, and I was able to (1) remember it and (2) actually do it. I was the only one who made an overtrick!

Tuesday, I bowled a 200 and a 551 series. That was my first 200 in two years and my highest series ever! My average is a modest 142.

Now if I could only get the wireless card on my Kubuntu 6,10 PC working!!

You're all wrong about Imus!!

Well, not about the man but about how to deal with him and others of his ilk.

Despicable, rude people have radio and TV shows only because the companies that sponsor them are making money. That's the capitalist system at work.

So, tune in to one of the programs, write down who the advertisers are, look them up on the Internet and send a letter to the president and/or chairman of the board telling why you are going to boycott their products until they stop sponsoring these disgraces to the human race.

And stick to the boycott!

This just in (from CNN)...

NEW YORK (CNN) -- Two advertisers have pulled their sponsorship of Don Imus' radio show to protest his racially charged comments about the Rutgers women's basketball team.

The office-supply chain Staples and Bigelow Tea Company said Tuesday they were ending their relationship with Imus, who has been suspended for two weeks by MSNBC and CBS Radio.
