This Damned Campaign

I'll be glad when this freaking campaign is over!!

A local tradesperson told me today that she was afraid to vote for Obama because she feared that blacks would riot (like the fans in Philadelphia after the World Series, I guess!)!! And she's a Joe-the-plumber aspirant!

A number of people keep forwarding lies about Obama and Biden, no matter what I do (ask them not to,send them links to snopes.com and factcheck.org). "I don't read them, I just pass them along." Sheesh!!

No one knows whether Obama will make a difference or not, but I think he has a chance. McCain, not-so-much -- too much a Washington insider for too long.

McCain: Have You Heard?

I was talking with a couple of neighbors the other day and they raised some questions/rumors about John McCain.

1. He was in mental/emotional therapy for a long time after being released from that North Vietnamese prison camp.

2. His time in that camp was a sham. He actually spent most of his time with the North Koreans, and returned to his cell when others could see him. He was never actually tortured. He made an anti-American propaganda "confession".

3. He was sleeping with Cindy while he was still married.

4. At Annapolis, he graduated 894th of 899!!

5. He's never had a job except for the Navy and political office.

6. He wasn't born in the US.

7. He wasn't a very good pilot. "The planes he was flying crashed twice and once collided with power lines, but he received no major injuries."

Does anyone have any factual information or would they like to help spread these "rumors"? :-)

Symphony Season

Last Saturday marked the beginning - for us - of the season of the NJ Symphony Orchestra, and all of the concerts are at the State Theater in New Brunswick.

We're not happy about that but the NJSO decided that Trenton could not support a concert season and parking is very difficult in Princeton. They are offering a "best of" series in Trenton but S&P voted against that.

New Brunswick is about an hour from here, door-to-door. The State Theater has more comfortable seats than the War Memorial and we sit in the first row of the balcony.

Saturday's program featured Mischa Santora, a young, very tall, Swiss who was born in the Netherlands to Hungarian parents; and Vadim Gluzman, a Russian-born Israeli violinist. He played the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto in E Minor, Opus 64 and received a standing ovation. He plays a 1690 Stradivarius instrument lent to him by the Stradivari Society of Chicago.

The orchestra also played Mendelssohn's Ruy Blas Overture ("blah") and Symphony No 1 in C Minor, Opus 68, by Johannes Brahms. Not my favorite.

There's a "Best of Beethoven" on 10/24. I may just go to that one!
