Salem-Gloucester-Rockport

As part of the quarterly trip to see our granddaughter, we tacked on a couple of days so we could visit Cape Anne, MA. This meant that I could eat steamed lobster and fried clams!! (Don't tell my cardiologist, please!!!)

We stayed at the Salem Waterfront Hotel which was quite nice and a good value, too, as they provided free breakfasts (anything from the regular menu) and a $25 gas card per night. However, they did not find the pair of pants that I left hanging in the closet.

We took the trolley tour of Salem -- you can get off and back on any number of times -- and it was quite a nice tour. Of course, Salem is very touristy, capitalizing on the year of the trials of the men and women accused of being witches, and on the House of Seven Gables. We didn't visit any witch places -- they were too crowded -- but we did tour the Turner-Ingersoll House, a.k.a. the Abode of the 7 You-know-whats. There's a scholarly write-up on-line.

We ate lobster at Finz and fried clams at Dube's (a bar!!) and both were excellent. Dube's was recommended as having the finest fried clams on Cape Anne and I could not say they didn't deserve that reputation. I had looked on the UCLA site but the two nearby places they suggested were no longer in business!

We took a drive to Gloucester and Rockport to do some sight-seeing, but they are also very touristy and lean towsrd whale-watching as an attraction. It was a nice ride as you can see from some of my photos.

Visit to Sara

We visited our darling granddaughter Sara, her parents, friend E, my daughter L, Sara's other grandma, L's people (who made brunch on Saturday).

We unexpectedly saw lots of wild turkeys cavorting in their yard as if they owned the place!!
